FAQs
Q: Are Cake products the best performing there is?
A: YES
Q: Will they make me a better skater?
A: Better skater maybe, but we will 100% make skating easier
Q: How fast do 3d printed parts slide?
A: We know they slide like a dream but everyone that skates our parts is surprised how fast they slide and say they are faster than the OEM parts they were using. We have had a few people comment that compared to stock equipment, 3d printed parts can be slightly slower on unwaxed objects but much faster on waxed.
Cake PLA+ and especially Cake PLA-ST has the same or slightly lower low coefficient of friction compared to plastics on a lot of stock skates. It will not compete with engineering plastics like UHMW (good), fibre filled Nylon (good-er) Acetal (good-est), however these plastics require to be CNC'd from blocks of material are much more expensive. We do already have a CNC machine in house ready to start producing and testing engineered plastic parts but we are concentrating on bringing more product designs for more skates to the market first.
Q: How durable are 3d printed parts?
A: This depends on three factors. Quality of filament. Quality of the printing. Quality of the design
Quality of filament used
The quality and properties of PLA+ varies wildly from manufacturer to manufacturer as there is no industry standard. Different brands add their own additives to PLA to give them different properties. We have tested an insane amount of filaments from various brands to find to optimal combination of high impact resistance, durability and low cost. Cake PLA+ is available in a huge range of colours. Cake PLA-ST (ST stands for super tough) is the absolute best material for high impact resistance due to a slight reduction in rigidity, perfect for soulplates, frame walls and H-blocks.
Quality of the printing
We have been printing for many years now and are well experienced in how to produce high quality durable parts, we do not rush printing to ensure the parts are solid and clean. We also use the latest and greatest machines and processes to make our products, constantly upgrading as new technology comes to market.
Quality of the design
It is obvious lot of effort is put into the aesthetic design of our parts, it should be obvious a lot effort is put into the function of them so they perform incredible but what will not be obvious to anyone is the time and effort put into designing and testing the parts so they are optimal for 3d printing.
Q: Will I look the coolest MF in the skatepark with my Cake products strapped to my Feet?
A: You know it
Q: Are Cake products totally unique?
A: Absolutely
Q: Is Cake sick of people stealing your ideas innovations or content?
A: Hell yes but what we gonna do
